Description
Wildlife filled place
Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge and the Rio Frío are biological humid areas considered to be one of the richest in biological diversity in Costa Rica. Here you can find a great variety of resident and migratory birds plus three different species of monkeys, also iguanas, sloths, turtles and caymans.
The tour starts picking up all “Nature Lovers” from their hotel in a comfortable bus for a 1-½ hour Transfer to Los Chiles, a culturally mixed village only 4-km from Nicaraguan border. Here a boat awaits for your river adventure, at that time begins a 2 ½ hour floating safari through Tropical Rain Forest and pastures until arriving a marsh. An experienced English – Spanish speaking guide leads the tour, whose skilled eyes, helped by the captain’s also trained vision, will help you spot the creatures hiding among the trees, many of them being birds.
Some birds are residents in the area and hundreds of them can be seen especially during dry season. Some of them are: Anhinga or Snake – bird, Roseate Spoonbill, Wood Storks, Jabiru (the largest bird in Central America and very endangered) and Olivaceous Cormorants, which make its nests in the area, it is also the most popular bird in the area.
Along the river it’s possible to find howler monkeys, spider monkeys, white-faced monkeys, also the three-toed sloth and some reptiles like caimans, Jesus Christ lizard and turtles
This trip includes a typical Costa Rican lunch, regional fruit, natural juices and coffee, all served for our client’s comfort at our Río Frío Restaurant; natural juices, bottled water and cookies are also included during the boat tour.
